Dear Neighbors,

I just got off the phone with the owner of Best-In
Liquors, located adjacent to Wholefoods. On each of
the past three days, the store has been robbed during
the day by a group of youths who come in and steal
whatever they can fit in their jackets. They have
threatened the owner, who is worried about his safety.
Please lookout for anyone suspicious on the 1400 block
of P Street and call 911 if you see a group matching
the following description:

-group of 4 to 7 African-American youths.
-the leader is about 6', thin, long braided hair,
   about 18 years old
-the other suspects are younger, and appear to be 14-
16 years old, 4 are about 5'1'' to 5'2'', two are
   about 5'8''
-most are wearing large winter jacket with hoods, most
   jackets are black.
-two are wearing black hats, two are wearing red hats
-they are wearing colored t-shirts under their jackets
-they are all wearing jeans and sneakers
-they appear to be coming to the store from the
7th Street and O Street area.

Let's try to help the store out and stop this from
happening again!

The Metro Cafe is returning as BoxLIFE.

We have teamed with Mark Zimin, the creator of
Mousetrap, and others to create a new artistic
experience.
A new two level location has been secured near the
old Metro Cafe.
We will continue to offer a mix of theater,
independent film screenings, and local visual artist
exhibitions coupled with a lounge to showcase DJ
talent. Sadly, given space constraints we can not
showcase live music. We spent more than a year looking
for a spot to resume live music and we will continue
to use our proven resources to support live music in
DC.
We are committed to building the local music and
arts scene. We continue talking to people who want to
partner with us. If you want to participate or provide
other creative input contact us.

The Director of The Phillips Collection
Cordially invites the Dupont Circle Neighborhood
                 to a Fall Open House
             Wednesday, November 5, 2003
                 6:30p.m to 8:30 p.m.
             1600 Twenty-first Street, NW
                    Washington, DC

Light refreshments starting at 6:30 p.m.
At 7 p.m., join assistant curator Dr. Susan
Behrends Frank for a tour of the exhibition,
Surrealism and Modernism from the Collection of the
Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art.
This fall, The Phillips Collection is host to some
of the most important avant-garde art of the early
twentieth century. Surrealism and Modernism from the
Collection of the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art
includes paintings, collages, and sculpture by
Salvador Dalí, Giorgio de Chirico, René Magritte,
Edvard Munch, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Picasso, among
many others. The works in this exhibition represent an
exhilarating array of artistic movements. Art lovers
will have the chance to explore dreamlike distortions,
provocative imagery, and meditations on the
subconscious in surrealist works seldom featured in
Washington. The Atheneum's twentieth century
collection of modernist works forms a complement to
the one established by Duncan Phillips. Surrealism and
Modernism provides a look at a unique era in the
history of collecting by American museums when
aesthetically adventurous directors struggled to make
the case for modern art to a suspicious public.
Surrealism and Modernism from the Collection of the
Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art will be featured at
The Phillips Collection from October 4, 2003 through
January 18, 2004.
Organized by the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art,
Hartford, Connecticut.
