Responding to our customers, we are now open everyday
and have extended our hours to 7pm during the week.
Our new store hours are: Monday through Friday 10am to
7pm, Saturday 9am to 5pm, and Sunday 11am to 5pm.
We continue to maintain a collection of blooming
perennials. Particularly stunning are the Anemones
and Tricyrtis. To fill in the bare spots for the
winter, I recommend our evergreen perennials: burgundy
and green Huechara, Sedum 'Fludaglut', Tiarella,
Lavender and Helleborus. Hardy Ferns will remain
lovely throughout the fall and winter as well.
Especially attractive are the Japanese Painted,
Dixiewood and Korean Rock Ferns.
For color through the cold weather season, our
pansies and lacey kales and cabbage are sure to
brighten up your garden. Our Pansies come in every
color in both Crown and Bingo (the blotchy kind).
Coming in tomorrow are new Chrysanthemums, the
Dendranthema. They're the real thing, old fashion mums
that bloom to December.
Lastly, we've added to the product assortment
interior plants, wonderful fresh cut flowers, and a
new supply of mulch, soil amenders, and gardening
tools.
Hope to see you this weekend.
Kind regards, Joe

Fusebox is pleased to announce its upcoming
exhibition, UNDERTOW: Anneč Olofsson & Shizuka
Yokomizo, curated by Elizabeth Fisher. The exhibition
opens November 2 and will run through December 15,
2002. A reception for the artists will be held
Saturday, November 2, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
The exhibition will feature a dual video projection
by Anneč Olofsson in our project space, along with
recent photographs by Shizuka Yokomizo in our main
exhibition space. Olofsson’s video work explores in
part both the vulnerability and banality engendered by
physical and emotional isolation, while Yokomizo’s
anonymous photographs blur the line between voyeur and
exhibitionist. Both artists deal with physical and
psychological distance between camera and subject,
while addressing human interaction and communication
in the urban environment.
The exhibition will be accompanied by an essay by
Elizabeth Fisher, and independent curator and writer
based in New York.
"Olofsson’s attention to form and style underpins an
ongoing analysis of stereotypes, identity politics and
relationships; tacking between surface and depth,
intimacy and distance, her distinct aesthetic echoes
both the kind of social engagement and the inclination
toward the poetic that is present in Yokomizo’s work.
The formal grace of both artists lends their work a
somber gravity suggestive of an indeterminate social
malaise, even psychological disturbance, in the
shadows behind as well as in front of the camera."
-Elizabeth Fisher, 2002
Born in Tokyo, Shizuka Yokomizo now lives and works in
London. Upcoming shows include solo exhibitions at
Museo D’arte Contemporanea di Roma and the Triennial
exhibition at Tate Modern. Recent solo exhibitions
include The Approach in London, and Cohan Leslie &
Browne in New York. Anneč Olofsson, born in
Hässleholm, Sweden, now lives and works in New York.
Her recent solo exhibitions include Marianne Boesky
Gallery in New York and Schaper-Sundberg Galleri in
Stockholm. Her work will also be exhibited in the Art
Video Lounge program at Art Basel Miami Beach in
December 2002. She was the subject of a major article
in the current issue of Art Journal, and was reviewed
in recent issues of Tema Celeste and The New Yorker.
This exhibition is being held in cooperation with
the Embassy of Sweden (1501 M Street, NW, Washington,
DC; (202) 467-2642), which will present a solo
exhibition of Anneč Olofsson’s photographs November 5
through December 13, 2002.
For further information, please contact Sarah
Finlay at (202) 299-9220. Gallery hours:
Wednesday–Saturday 12–8 pm and Sunday 12–6 pm.
