Finally, my pregnant neighbor had her purse stolen
yesterday at 7am, SW corner of 16th U, by the lady who
was sitting next to her in the bus tops. A chase
ensued, causing our heroine to trip and bruise
herself. Thanks to the passers-by (incl a few on
bikes) who recovered the purse and helped the police
apprehend the thief. Mother and child are doing fine,
and I'm hoping the thief gets locked up forever.

Best regards,
Michael

My partner and I are moving to the DC area and your
page on Dupont Circle has half convinced me to move
there. I have been making phone calls from home, in
Ft. lauderdale FL, trying to find an apartment. Today
I finally got the low down from a realtor of all
people. She said my best best is to wake up early
sunday morning, get the washington post and with
check in hand find myself an apartment and be willing
to compromise.

None of that sounds good to me. For one thing I live
in Florida. I will be in DC this weekend, june 23 -
25, but I am not actually relocating till August 1.
And I am not really that willing to compromise on the
quality of the building but I guess if I have to...
Luckily money is not really a concern. From what I
have seen we can afford the prices there for large two
bedroom.

The reason I am writing you is to ask if you know
anybody who would like to be our apartment finder. We
would pay them of course. It would help me greatly if
I was in contact with sombody who lived in Dupont
Circle who would like to get up early sunday mornings
and search for apartments for us. I am not entirely
sure if that would work but its the best thought I can
come up with right now.

If you know anyone or have any adive please let me know

We're starting a new NIH study on genes and sexuality
and are looking for volunteers. What we need is at
least a gay guy and his mother, but siblings
and fathers are also encouraged to participate. You
and your family members will be asked to fill out a
short personality questionnaire, and a small blood
sample will be collected. Every participant gets $45
to $60 compensation.

You can either come to our center at the National
Institutes of Health in Bethesda, or you can have your
blood drawn by your own doctor. In that case, we send
a small blood collection kit with a pre paid envelope
which the doctor or nurse uses to send the blood
sample to us.

For more information, please call Sven at 301 496
2979, or check out our web site:
NIH
Sibling and Sexual Orientation Study

This is an important study. I hope you can help!

Thanks,
Dean

Feel free to send this messages to all your friends
who might be interested. "Snowball sampling" is the
official name for that.

Thanks for your help,
Sven Bocklandt

ALERT: SAVE THE METROPOLITAN BRANCH TRAIL
IN THE NEW YORK AVENUE CORRIDOR
PUBLIC HEARING JUNE 27
PUBLIC COMMENTS ACCEPTED UNTIL JULY 14

The proposed New York Avenue Metro station and
additional tracks are being planned for land that is a
crucial segment of the Metropolitan Branch Trail
(MBT). The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit
Authority (WMATA), the managing agency of Metro, is
discussing incorporating the trail into their station
plans with the D.C. Department of Public Works. WMATA
has said, however, that if agreement cannot the
reached, the station and trail are separate projects
and that the trail can be done later. Additionally,
WMATA’s concept drawings of the station show the trail
ending at
the station rather than continuing on to Union Station
as planned. WABA supports new station only if it
truly incorporates the MBT.

WMATA will hold a public hearing Tuesday, June 27 at
7:30 pm, preceded by an open house at 6:30 pm. The
hearing will be at the Council of Governments Training
Room, Lobby Level, 777 North Capitol St NE (Union
Station Metro). To register to speak at the hearing
(hearing #144), send your name, address, and telephone
number to Mr. Harold Bartlett, Secretary, WMATA, 600
5th Street NW, Washingtion, DC 20001. Those who
register in advance will receive five minutes, and
those who do not will receive three minutes. Or
submit written comments (docket #R00-2) to the above
address by the close of business on Friday, July 14.

Points to Make in Testimony or Comments:
New York Avenue Metro station can become a model for a

integrated trail and transit station the station and
the trail will complement each other if done together
stationproject must include the MBT - the trail cannot
simply be built later, as WMATA claims, once WMATA
puts a station on the land that is planned for the
trail station design must give trail users the option of
continuing past the station with minimal conflict with
station users or accessing the station
